The following list of selected case studies indicates the breadth of database systems that Wills has developed. In all cases the systems replaced less efficient local systems and approaches. In some cases specialist programmers were introduced when the database systems themselves were outgrown. They then became useful time- and money-saving prototypes for programmers to emulate.

Financial Services

System for Analysis and Reporting on Home Loans Held in A-1+ Rated Trust

Wills developed a robust, efficient database solution in MS Access for a wholesale financier of home loans. The system accepted monthly data on individual home loans provided by retail lenders, aggregated that data and produced analysis reports on the entire pool. The standard of the analysis was regulated by the terms of the Trust Deed, and monthly reports were provided to Directors and managers of the wholesale financier, to the rating agency, and to the Trustee. The database solution slashed the time required to produce these reports and the quality of the analysis revealed errors in other systems (i.e. retail lenders' systems) when they occured.

System for Issue of Rated Commercial Paper to Institutional Investors

Wills developed an MS Access database to manange the issue of rated, short-term commercial paper to institutional investors. (These securities related to the loan pool mentioned above.) The system recorded bids and managed the issue of correspondence and e-mails in accordance with the requirements of the Trust. The system reduced the time spent undertaking this vital task and streamlined/consolidated record-keeping for the company.

System for Management of Home Loan Applications

Wills developed a database system for the processing of home loan applications by retail lenders. (The significant upfront and ongoing costs associated with licences to off-the-shelf loan processing systems encouraged the client to develop their own proprietary system.) Wills developed the core system for operation by company staff that streamlined data-entry, financial calculations, and managed correspondence and record-keeping. The system was designed to dovetail with the company's policies and procedures and met the requirements of the rating agency and Trustee.

Business Analysis and Advisory Tools

System for Business Analysis and Reporting

Working for a national accounting firm, Wills developed and implemented a database system for the efficient production of financial management reports. The system undertook necessary calculations and produced graphical reports with context-sensitive comments.

System for Commerical Analysis of Combined Heat and Power Installations

Wills developed a database application for efficient, accurate commercial evaluation of combined heat and power installations in large commercial buildings. The system estimates electrical and cooling demand for each month of year and hour of day based on building and climate data and a range of power system calculations. It determines possible engine and chiller combination and provides a comprehensive initial commercial assessment, including analysis of unutilised potential and comparative analysis of alternative non-trigeneration solutions. The tool is intended to improve the quality of initial service for customers and relieve pressure on sales and engineering staff.

Education

System for Management of a National Financial Survey

Wills conducted original survey and database development in relation to an annual national financial performance survey of independent schools in Australia. The database, which analyses school performance compared to financial averages and benchmarks, was used to generate the survey, manage participation and produce individual reports for schools and aggregate reports for other interested parties.

Systems for Strategic Management of Fund Raising Campaigns

Wills devised, implemented and managed the information systems necessary to support fund raising for the Development Office of a major Australian University. The systems related to six fund raising and graduate relations programs and continuous management of simultaneous time-critical projects, as well as liaison with university staff and outside contractors.
